STEPHANIE AMES is an abstract artist who revels in the unexpected and finds inspiration in timeless forms: the patina of aged metal, the texture of vintage paper, luminosity.
Her work evolves in response to the materials she is using, often combining precious metals, painting, and collage elements. Her approach is one of exploration and restraint. Since 1998, Stephanie has worked with metals as a jewelry designer and brings this skill and sensibility to her art. The shifting visual experience of painting and drawing with metals - due to aging, oxidation, burnishing, and reflection- is a subject matter she often explores in her work.
Stephanie has a Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Georgia, where she studied English and Geology. She studied abstraction with Jeffrey Simmons at Gage Academy of Art in Seattle since 2019. In 2024 she received a Best of Gage award in abstraction. She is a member of the Ballard Collective and serves as a curator of the Phase/55 Gallery.
